Got a theater? Wine bar? Restaurant? Big house?
Anywhere 30-100 people can get together? Reach out, let's do a show. Here's the trailer I made to promote my solo show at The Hollywood Fringe Festival in June.
Growing up as a very shy kid in the 80s, I watched every episode of A&E's Evening at the Improv many times. But even after I moved to LA in 2005 to pursue an acting career, I never believed that stand up was something I would ever be able to do. I finally gave it a go in 2009. I lasted about 6 months.
Since then, my love for comedy has only grown and in January of 2023 I started writing again and a few months later, I started performing again. Since getting back on stage, I've performed at The Comedy Store, The Ice House, Flappers, The Ha Ha, The Comedy Chateau, all in the Los Angeles area, as well as Laughs Unlimited in Sacramento and lots of shows with Reno-Tahoe Comedy.
I've opened for Erica Rhodes, Marcella Arguello, Heather Pasternak, Adam Ferrara, Matt Knudsen, Vargus Mason and performed in the San Francisco Comedy Competition, The Sacramento Laughs Unlimited Comedy Festival and many others.
My favorites and biggest inspirations are Marc Maron, Mike Birbiglia, Maria Bamford, Tig Notaro, Gary Gulman, Taylor Tomlinson and Neal Brennan. Their vulnerability, honesty and humor has, I won't say saved my life, but I won't not say it, either. They, and many other comics, have made me feel less alone in the world. And while it's a borderline absurd thing to say, especially as a 52 year old guy who got a late start, my hope is that someday I can do for someone what these comics did, and continue to do, for me.
My comedic style has been described as dry and dark. I don't know if that's true and I can honestly say, as long as it's funny, I don't really care. I do sometimes talk about some dark topics that are very personal to me. Things like my own struggles with depression and anxiety are regular topics in my sets, and on special occasions, I'll go a lot darker than that. Again, hopefully it's still funny.
All that being said, I produce a (about) once a month show in Reno where I invite some of the best comics in LA to share their stuff with us in a small theater setting. You can find more info about that show by clicking this link for Funny Words in Reno tickets and information. Beyond that, check my linktree for other upcoming dates and events.I'd love to see you at a show.
